languishing in drafts
at a glance, it may have seemed like my blog was dead for the greater part of last year. however, it was not for lack of trying!
i wrote maybe 15-ish entries that eventually just ended up languishing in drafts for one reason or another, but i thought it might be fun to share some of my favorite unpublished titles/one-liners. i might revisit some of these topics and get around to completing a few over the upcoming months, but it's nice to have a record of what i once thought was worth writing about, before i embark upon my annual digital purge:
- [12/13/2024] "boybands can actually be so personal" - this was supposed to be about seventeen going to the military + a personal retrospective on my adolescent involvement in kpop fandom, but i really could not have foreseen 1) boynextdoor destabilizing my kpop mount rushmore by releasing 오늘만 i love you on jan 6 of the new year and 2) the global cultural phenomenon that was kpop demon hunters???? so maybe this is worth rewriting + publishing lol
- [12/16/2024] "shame, the silent killer" - about repression, will likely never see the light of day.
- [01/08/2025] "a fever dream in 25 minutes" - a less-than-glowing review of dandandan (2024). i took it down because my dislike of the first season was too lukewarm yet all-encompassing to result in anything worth reading.
- [01/09/2025] "objects tethering me to this earthly plane" - quote: "my everyday carry as a twentysomething who works in an office building and spends 40+ mins commuting every weekday, aka the loot you'd receive if you murked me in an rpg." i think this ended up becoming a trend(?) later in the year, which was really cool to see!
- [02/05/2025] "chasing the dragon" - quote: "i got into law school. [azealia banks voice] so...what now?"
- [02/06/2025] "white boy of the month" - caleb gamman, baby! he released a great miniseries on ai in 2022 called cybergunk and i quite enjoy his game/media commentary.
- [02/06/2025] "our worst-kept secret" - quote: "small talk is good, actually. reducing social friction with the people you need to interact with on a daily basis is good, actually."
- [02/07/2025] "high school debate rotted my brain" - what it says on the tin. i'm addicted to being right and it's ruining my life.
- [02/09/2025] "half-assing is the new full send" - quote: "the key to stop making bad art is to make a ton of bad art (the adjective 'bad' is doing a lot of heavy lifting here)."
- [03/30/2025] "city boy spring & gender euphoria" - or, how i learned to stop worrying and love the button-down. quote: "it's a very finicky, aspirational way of presenting oneself that is mostly concerned with structured collars, wide-fit trousers, and the untouchable paragon of casual-yet-put-together upper crust americana that confoundingly, only seems to live on in modern japanese streetwear."
- [03/30/2025] "an only child at heart" - about birth order dating theory and becoming firstborn.
- [05/01/2025] "the girl in the looking glass" - quote: "i don't know if i like the person i've become, and i'm not sure i have the willpower to change for the better."
- [09/16/2025] "breakneck bops for blazing hot days" - a transitional summer-to-autumn playlist! a lot of bad bunny; some charli xcx, sophie, lady gaga (artpop), and lorde; a truckload of gabby start; replay by iyaz and abracadabra by brown eyed girls
- [09/21/2025] "formative animanga favorites" - let the record show that i have basic tastes and have not once claimed otherwise! i will probably flesh this out later, but for now: "forget haruka and michiru—kou seiya...your impact on my 8 y/o mind will never be forgotten. the sailor animamates had gorgeous outfits, intriguing backstories, and excellent slayeristic tendencies that were unfortunately...uh, minimized...by usagi et al during the final arc. naruto wishes it did filler as well as sailor moon."
- [10/19/2025] "we're going off the rails" - quote: "it's been 8 weeks since i've become a student again, and it hasn't stopped feeling like a wool sweater left too long in the dryer."
- [12/25/2025] "adrift, unmoored" - christmas self-reflection after walking along the beach. we counted more than 12 jellyfish stranded by low tide.
and there you have it! hopefully this will encourage both you & me to be less precious about our writing and share more in 2026. nothing i described above was too personal or niche to have been published on vespertine dot bearblog dot dev over the past year, but inexplicably, i couldn't bring myself to finish writing the entries or click the damn button. this year will be different.
determinedly,
t
